I have never seen so many dirty windows in my 16 years of cleaning windows. Even homes I regularly service are dirtier than normal. This winter and spring brought an excessive amount of rain and wind to create very dirty windows. Here are some things to keep in mind to protect your investment (your home) and help keep your windows clean and in working order.

• Clean windows at least once a quarter, or more depending on the weather and terrain around your home. Remove the winter film and let light in.
• Adjust sprinklers from spraying on your windows. Don’t spray water on your windows without wiping them dry immediately after. Water will dry on the windows leaving hard water deposits.
• Don’t let inexperienced window cleaners wash your windows, they could scratch or damage them.
• Keep trees and bushes back from windows.
• Keep BBQ grills away from windows for heat reasons and grease build up on the windows.
• Avoid direct pressure washing of windows, high pressure could collapse the seal of your double pane windows.
• Check for any gaps in the caulking or sealing; if any arise fill them in with caulk or a foam sealing agent.
• Check the weather stripping and test to see if your windows are working properly from the inside. Lubricate the mechanisms with a dry lubricant to ward off unnecessary dust.

Now that spring has finally arrived in the Treasure Valley, it is time to prepare for the warm months ahead of us! Get ready for the air conditioner. To get ready for the A/C season you should change the filter from the inside of the home. Remove any grass, weeds, or debris growing around, up the sides, or under the outdoor condensing unit. Also, clean the exterior of the condensing unit with the hose starting up from top working in a downward motion.
